Launch of the Energy Installation
Research shows that 3D experiences and gaming can create authentic and experienced based contexts for learning. This has motivated the development of the Energy Installation, which is scheduled for launch in spring 2010.
The development of the Energy Installation, as well as major parts of the World Beside Browser and server technology, was conducted by World Beside in a major project during 2007 - 2009 in collaboration with the Council for Education in Oslo, the oil company Statoil and three pilot secondary schools in Oslo.
In relation to the Norwegian curriculum, the Energy Installation is in particular relevant for the natural sciences in the 10th school year, covering curricular competence goals pertaining to hydrogen as energy carrier, bio-mass as energy, batteries and solar cells.
World Beside will lauch a public demonstrator site for the Energy Installation in spring 2010. Schools and classes that need privat sites for shielded teaching sessions will need to contact us for special arrangements.
The reports listed to the right summarizes findings from the 2007 - 2009 project, as well as providing the pilot teachers learning scripts for how to use the Energy Installation in teaching.

The Energy Installation focuses on energy consumption and CO2 emmission from transport. The pupils work in small groups to build vehicles that are optimally constructed for the transport problem. The work can be carried out either in a lab format or as an open event where the pupuils discuss their findings afterwards in plenum sessions.
